A problem of install mysql in redhat 8.0

I have downloaded mysql source(mysql-4.0.9-gamma), and confinged it (./confiure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql), then made it , intalled it (make==>make install).

After installed it, I itialized mysql(./mysql_intall_db). Then ran the command of mysql, but Linux told me can not find "mysql.sock", so I can use mysql database.

Please tell me what is problem with it.

在 my.cnf 里面的 [client]、 [mysqld] 节都象这样指定一下：
socket                  = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

先启动mysql server, 这样你才可以用mysql命令(client)去联接

你好像要先启动mysql。。好像是mysqld吧
