求助！还是驱动MODEM的问题！

我近来装了Redhat 9.0，没有升级，是2.4的内核。使用中除了MODEM之外都很正常。经检查，是PCTEL的内猫(HSP56K)，在网上下载了pctel-0.9.7-9.tar.gz的驱动程序安装，安装过程很正常。在KDE的系统信息里也看到MODEM了，用KPPP来拨号，但总是定在“初始化调制调解器”的过程不动了！
   在WINDOWS里检测MODEM在COM3端口，本来以为是端口问题，但是在KPPP里我试过所有的端口还是不行！
   请问是什么问题呀？我也在这里找了很多资料，搞了一个星期了~~~还是不行！各位大虾，可以详细的介绍我应怎样驱动这只猫吗？我是新手，请大家不要见笑了！

具体路径在那里??
我的MODEM是PCTEL的,今天试着装了intel-537EP的驱动不行,
再试了intel-537EA_secure-2.27.39.0的驱动,用KPPP可以检测到MODEM了!
但是老是最后提示NO DIALTONE!我的电话线没问题呀,在WINDOWS可以正常使用.

这么奇怪的解决方法？
这样试试吧，编辑/etc/modules.conf，将里面有关snd的行用#注释掉，应该就不会加载声卡模块了
