关于redhat linux AS 3.0 shmmax值的

大家好，我的操作系统是redhat linux as 3.0，内存为4G,我在/etc/sysctl.conf中定义了kernel.shmmax=17179869180，但是我用 more /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax 命令看shmmax的值，shmmax依然是4294967292，echo 17179869180 > shmmax的办发也用过了，请问大家shmmax值的这个问题该怎么解决呢？
