red hat 9 cannot log off

i just installed red hat 9 on my dell inspiron 2650.
everything works fine.except after i get into hte graphic user
interface by typing "startx", if i want to log off , it didn't go
back to the text interface, instead giving me a blank screen.

I am newbie of red hat , don't really know whts wrong with it.

please, help if u know hwo to solve it.

Type"init3" in the terminal,you can go into the text interface.
