FC4下2.6.16内核安装--出问题了硬盘都无法检测到了

我用的是FC4,原来内核是2.6.11,从kernel.org上下了一个2.6.16.1的核想编译一下,按照
make && make modules_install && make install
之后配置/etc/grub.conf , reboot 进入了 init 之后再过了几步就出现:

error dup2'ing fd of 0 to 2

unmounting old/sys

kernel panic - not syncing : Attempted to kill init!
之后重启连硬盘都检测不到了,还是把硬盘拔下来再插上才能进原来2.6.11的内核,而之前我看了看/dev/consoles是0字节,难道是我硬盘出问题了,有大侠指教一下.

装新kernel需要make install 么？？
